Q. What level of lightning protection can I expect to see from an LED based Obstruction Light ?

Answer.

The FAA Advisory Circular “Specification for Obstruction Lighting Equipment”, AC No: 150/5345-43F, clearly lists transient protection requirements for Obstruction Lighting as “The power input, control and monitor interface circuitry shall be designed to withstand the waveforms detailed in ANSI/IEEE C62.41-1991”. This IEEE specification details the following voltage and current threshold requirements:
61550; Voltage Spike: 6000V Line to Line
61550; Voltage Spike: 6000V Line to Ground
61550; Current Spike: 3000A each Line to Ground
The Dialight, 860 series has passed the testing required to meet the ANSI/ IEEE specification listed above. Therefore, the 860 series, LED based beacon has been tested to and has passed the same stringent transient protection standards as incandescent and strobe based products in the past. The power and duration of all lightning strikes can vary, and even products designed to the IEEE standard may not withstand all strikes. But having passed the FAA requirement for transient protection, Dialight’s 860 series is capable of handling lightning strikes at industry recognized levels.

Q. Can you replace the LED bulb.

Answer. The light is a sealed unit and cannot be opened in the field. Replacement involves removing the lamp assembly from the wire housing and replacing with a new one. see Obstruction lights for part numbers

Q. Are these Architectural lights sealed to any standard.

Answer.
Yes, all our 860 lights are sealed to IP65
standards

Hazardous Area Obstruction Lights (860)

Q. Do these products still meet ICAO specifications?

Answer.
Yes, our Class 1 Div 2 hazardous area range are based on the same technology as the standard 860 series.
